I’ve been a drummer since I was 10 years old (I’m 56 now). At that time, I was the only girl percussionist and got a lot of flack from the boys, but I stuck with it. Although I was in band, I never learned to read music, and play mostly by ear. Due to life circumstances, I didn’t play drums for nearly 30 years and picked it back up a couple years ago. I’m currently the Mental Health Specialist at a shelter for youth who are experiencing homelessness, and also have a private practice. Playing drums is a huge part of my self care, and I will continue to play until I can’t any more.
