Hi! I’m Jen Towns, and I can’t believe this is my fourth year entering the Hit Like A Girl contest! I took the plunge and decided to start playing drums at 43 years old and haven’t looked back since. My “day job” is in Human Resources, but most evenings I’ll come home and sit down to play for a while. For me, it’s a bit of stress-relief, exercise, and a chance to be creative and build skills all at the same time. It is such pure joy to play drums and I am so thankful that I can do it. Not to mention being inspired by all of the amazing drummers that participate in this contest every year – it’s an honor to simply be a part of it.
In past contest entries I have always played along to drumless tracks, but this year I thought I would play along to “Tetris” by Royal Jelly Jive – a not-so well known band that is one one my favorites. Besides Tetris being the only video game that I actually can excel at 😉 – I think this is just a really fun song to play along with – lots of ghosts notes and rhythms that you can really feel. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Hi, Jen ! It is always great to see how much your drumming improves from year to year. Good luck!
Thank you! I always look forward to this contest – so much fun to be a part of it!
Hey you hit like a girl! Keep up the sweet beats!
You bet – thanks Tim😊
Hi Jennifer! I love this song choice! I love the vibe of your playing too! X
Thanks!! This band isn’t too well known, but should be. I really like their vibe…
Hey Girl! You’re getting some funk in there this year. Very smooth and enjoyable to listen to. I always thought there should be an award for the most improved since many of us enter year ;after year. You are really coming along nicely!

Thanks Queenie! It’s a process, but I love every step of it…
Go girl! Way to represent old school!
Thanks Leslie!! You know it! 🙂
Love it!
Thanks!!
Hi Jennifer. Great job, I like how the song allows you to play different volumes and textures. I also love hearing stories of women taking up drums as adults. So often women approach me and tell me they wish they played drums when they were younger and I remind them that it’s never too late to start 🙂
That’s the best advice ever! Thanks Maria!
Love your style, always have!
Hmm, must be in the genes…!😄
