As a lifelong drummer with a music education, I appreciate the opportunity to participate in the Hit Like A Girl contest.
In the last couple of years, it’s a great way to support our drum community during strenuous times.
Through music school, much of my musical career was in the 1990s playing with bands in venues up and down Toronto’s Queen St music scene. Although life, family and travel did take me away from it for a few years, I always managed to have a practice pad and sticks in hand throughout my travels; to keep up my chops.
Those who spend time with me for a drink or dinner will notice that I constantly tap away, as drumming is in my blood, its therapeutic and it’s life!
Over the years my influences come from Jazz, Fusion, Blues, Progressive Rock, Blues and 1970s genres with Buddy Rich, Dave Weckl and Steve Gadd as the gold standard of playing.
Nowadays, after realigning my drum passion, along with live music bouncing back, I’m fired up, playing in front of fans as the drummer for the punk/metal band; Miss Conduct.
From the first time hearing “Make the Road By Walking” by Menahan Street Band, I knew that I could support the musicality to still make it my own for this year’s submission, where its an honor to showcase it.

Great job, Hazel. Like you, drums have had to take a back seat to life and family at times but I never completely gave it up. I also tap away on anything that’s in front of me 🙂
It’s like second nature, tapping away.
Awesome!!!
