I started playing drums at 8 after a friend invited me to join them at an “intro” lesson; I was hooked. Since then, I joined School of Rock, where I’m a member of the school’s by audition-only House Band. I’m also a percussionist in my junior high band, and will join marching band in high school. I also play bass guitar and sing. I’ve learned so much about music and about myself since I started drumming. I’m happiest when I’m onstage and when I’m making an IMPACT by helping others learn. When I started performing, most of the older kids wouldn’t talk to me because I was so little, but there was one teenager who became my friend. Because of her, I volunteer as a helper at School of Rock’s 101 camp and intentionally make friends with the new kids in my performance group, no matter their age. I also work with 6th grade percussion beginners. However, I’m proudest of the fact that I inspired my dad to start playing drums. His dad was a drummer, but my dad never learned. Now at 56, he’s rocking out and we practice every day using my grandpa’s drum set from 1966. Music is my life and I love it.
