My name is Alexandrina, I am 25 years old and I am playing through some of my band’s original songs in this video entry.
My drumming journey started at The Bridge Festival in my hometown. It is an event where musicians offer lessons and guidance to teenagers and young adults in different art and music categories. I was nervous since It was the first time I picked up drumsticks and sat behind a real kit, but thanks to the friendly attitude of my mentors and the accepting environment I had a great experience and fell in love with the instrument. My newfound love for music later extended to songwriting, singing and learning to play other instruments but drums remained a priority.
I started going to lessons, playing with other people and soon after that I met two lovely girls-Mila and Bia. They wanted to start a band and were looking for a drummer, that was the beginning of People of Maha. We started playing live gigs in clubs, played at festivals around the country and recorded our first album.
We also wanted to use music to talk about different social issues, support causes and help the people around us. We have taken part in different charity initiatives like raising money for the preservation and repairs of historical monuments and concerts to raise money and collect donations for Ukrainian refugees in our country.
I also had the heartwarming experience of returning to The Bridge Festival as a mentor and performer.
