Los Angeles event scheduled for February 6 and New York for February 13, 2016
The organizers of the Hit Like A Girl female drumming contest, in conjunction with Swing House Studios and New York University (NYU), are proud to announce two exciting drum events scheduled to take place in Los Angeles and New York the first two weekends in February.
The first festival, taking place on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at Swing House Studios (3229 Casitas Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90039) in Los Angeles, features clinics and performances by Kim Thompson (Beyoncé/Late Night with Seth Meyers), Gina Schock (The Go-Go’s) and the Los Angeles debut of artist/educator Emmanuelle Caplette. Also on the bill are a panel discussion moderated by Kiran Gandhi (MIA) with Jess Bowen (The Summer Set), Val Sepulveda (Heather Russell) and Venzella Joy (Beyoncé) and an appearance by an all-girl, all-star band from the Los Angeles area School Of Rock music schools. Sponsors include DW, Gretsch, Sonor, Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, TRX, Evans, Promark, Vic Firth, Swing House, Musician’s Institute, School Of Rock and Hit Like A Girl. In addition, the Los Angeles event will offer hands-on demonstrations of the latest drum gear from Mapex and NFUZD. The final concert of the day will be filmed to air later on YouTube and The Enter Music Network courtesy of DrumChannel.com.
The second Hit Like A Girl Drum Festival will occur in conjunction with NYU’s “Day Of Percussion” on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the Frederick Loewe Theatre (35 West 4th Street, New York, NY 10012) in New York. Featuring a variety of educational clinics and performances from NYU and KoSA guests, Hit Like A Girl supported activities for the east coast festival include appearances by Cherisse Osei (Bryan Ferry), 2015 Hit Like A Girl Champion Lindsay Artkop and an all-girl, all-star band from the New York City area School Of Rock music schools. The Hit Like A Girl Drum Festivals are free of charge and open to the public.
Now in its 5th year, since the Hit Like A Girl Contest began there have been more than 1,600 entrants from 45 countries and more than 8,000,000 web impressions.
